Letter: Sick of Bush, Cheney

Editor:

I'm writing in response to a couple of recent letters to the editor complaining about how bad off we all will be, when President-elect Barack Obama takes office.

My question to these people is, where have you been these past eight years, while our country goes to a war, we can't win? If Russia can't beat these people, what makes our leaders think we can?

Where have you been while the Bush administration has ruined our economy, allowed all our jobs to go to foreign countries and even sold part of our country to China? Where have you been, while regulations have been dismantled and big companies fail, our banks fail, our auto industry is going under and our real estate is in shambles? Where have you been?

If the Republicans did such a great job, they would have been re-elected.

As you can tell, I am among millions, who are sick of President Bush and Vice President Cheney.

President-elect Obama - YES WE CAN! I am a proud Christian conservative Democrat.

Esther-

Our government has no business getting involved in business! It's apparent that you do not have the slightest clue as to how a "free market System" works! Most governments around the world are designed and setup to protect the "government" from the people! Our government was originally designed to protect the people from the government! Unfortunately, somewhere along the way, that idea has been slowly lost! IT NEEDS TO BE REAFFIRMED NOW!!! When the next tea party begins I would advise you to "choose wisely" the type of tea you will drink!

Esther_

I guess I would have to ask you "where have you been?" The last time I watched the news we (The United States) were winning! Your statement that "If Russia can't beat these people, what makes our leaders think we can?" I don't remember any recent significant wins by the "Russians." So what's your point? When did the Russians even try to win there? Your tone sounds like the "Russians" are the official measurement of military might! Nothing could be further from the truth - they can talk a good story and that's about it. I believe you are mistaking the "Russians" for "Soviet Union (USSR)." Even the old Soviet Union backed off from the United States and they (USSR) no longer exist. Brush up on your history a little!

Esther-

If you want to blame government for ruining business then start with over regulation and the creation of an unfavorable business environment in this country. You would probably have to look at Democrats and Republicans both for those fiascos. Business will go where it's most favorable to operate and maximize profits! This is not rocket science! Your statement that the Bush administration allowed this to happen is false! Banks, the auto industry and others are failing on their own! There should be no bailouts (taxpayer money) of any group - this will correct itself in time!

I'm with you, Esther. Don't pay any attention to those who scoff at your beliefs or call you uninformed -- many of us agree with you. That's what makes America great -- we get to vote to reflect our opinions and beliefs.

Sunriver and megawatt, if you feel so strongly about these things, run for office and change things. Don't belittle those who have other opinions.

Posted by eichenbaum on November 15, 2008 at 9:16 a.m.

centxlady-

I don't have a problem with you or anyone stating their opinions or beliefs! I have a problem when they are not based on facts! Don't lump me together with megawatt or anyone else! I am not a right wing conservative, I would not waste my time on the likes of Rush Limbaugh, et al! Esther is uninformed! It's that simple! I have no desire to run for office - apparently you missed my statement about the next "tea party!" That's how change will occur in this country!

It may relieve your symptoms to try a bit of milk of magnesia.

You know what I am tired of Esther? I am sick and tired of democrats whine and complain about George Bush. If you want to be angry at someone, why aren't you mad at the people in your own party (Barack Obama, Chris Dodd, Barney Frank, etc.) who literally caused the financial mess we are in today?

YOu people are the first ones to call for harmony and bipartisanship but where have you been for the last 8 years? Offering solutions and trying to build a nation? No. Your collective party has been on a binge of complaining about everything. If we lose men, you complain. If we start winning the war, you complain.

And Barack Obama has been the worst of them all. He won a presidency by criticizing. No accomplishments to demonstrate his ability to lead. No laws passes while in the state and federal Senate houses he served in. He just complained.

Well, you are in a situation now where your party is the only one to blame but I fully expect that the explaination will be "WHat could we do, everything was in a mess"

The party of hope? PULEEZE!

I too agree with Esther and centexlady ! Thank God some of us have come to our senses and voted for a change of the status quo. Let's face it, the Bush/Republican Administration is leaving a garbage dump for our incoming Administration to clean up. Although it is going to take a lot of work and a lot of time, let's pray that the Obama Administration can get a hold on it. It would be a feat of gigantic proportions for McCain to fix if he had been elected.
This country is a financial disaster due to a lot of "good of boys" advising our administration with self-serving yet bad advice, really bad decisions, a "shoot first, ask questions later mentality", and lack of general concern for the everyday citizens of this great country. Unfortunately, basing one's concern on the "big businesses" have driven our economy into the ground. With "big businesses", enough is never enough. It always boils down to padding their own pockets and overall greed !

Hey folks...so much for Obama bringing about "unity" huh?

Posted by WTXlady4sure on November 15, 2008 at 5:34 p.m.

You cannot have "UNITY" when you have racists, bigots, and narrow minded red neck ultra conservatives who have already condemned him before he even has a chance to start to try to bring this country back together.
Soooo...Why don't y'all sit back and give it a chance for a while. Afterall, there is not a darn thing y'all can do about anything for the next 4 years anyway. At least y'all can have the common decency to give Obama a chance to do what he said he would do.

in response to megawatt

Hear! Hear! Megawatt! But I would really like to add a little to your response.
1. Our economy was doing great, quarter after quarter of growth and very low unemployment...until 2 years ago when the Dems took over Congress. Who do you think, Ester, was supposed to be watching over Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac? Why it was Franke and Dodd, both Democrats. While I don't let the Bush administration off completely, Bush was told, as was the whole U.S., by Franke, that Fannie and Freddie were strong! This was just in June or July of this year! These are facts, ma'am. Check them.
2. If you were referring to the war in Iraq, check those facts, too, ma'am. We are winning. We have turned over almost all provinces in Iraq to complete Iraqi control. Violence there has fallen to all-time lows. The wonderful Iraqi people are beginning to prosper and live normal lives, less afraid to venture into the market places. Children are going to new schools which our soldiers helped to build. Sure, this war has cost us a lot of money, but what is money compared to the lives that are now safe due to our action? That is a Christian tenent. Also, we now have an partner in the middle east against terrorism and one less country for the terrorists to hide in.
3. I don't quite understand how you can equate your Christian values with those of Obama. Obama is pro-abortion, even up to the day the baby could be born naturally. Obama associated himself with a known terrorist who killed people and bombed our Pentagon and other American buildings, and a pastor who preaches hate!

I hear people rave and bow down to Obama. He has been called Messiah, the One and Savior. To my Christian belief, that is blasphemy!

I will continue to pray to God that he keeps our Country safe and that he restrains the hand of Obama from doing grave harm to our country. Obama's financial plan, if implemented will only serve to put this Country into another Great Depression.

You, Ester, need to remove the Obama-veil from your eyes and look at facts before you praise someone who has the potential to harm or even destroy everything this Country stands for!

"He has been called Messiah, the One and Savior. To my Christian belief, that is blasphemy!"

Funny, all of the people making these statements are from your clan, the conservative far right, such as Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck, Sean Hannity, etc.

As to the other, your arguments do not stand up to scrutiny of all the facts. But I suspect you know that.

Wrong is you mega.

Here is the truth about what Louis Farrakhan said:

Right-wing Conservative websites such as World Net Daily reported that during his February 24, 2008 "Saviours' Day" speech, Farrakhan called Senator Obama "the Messiah". However, Farrakhan quoted in context during his speech, said, "Sen. Obama is not the Messiah for sure, but anytime, he gives you a sign of uniting races, ethnic groups, ideologies, religions and makes people feel a sense of oneness, that’s not necessarily Satan’s work, that is I believe the work of God."

Your examples are so pathetic. You really need to broaden your sources of news.

Oprah Winfrey introduced one of her favorite people at what the NY Times called "the largest spectacle of the campaign cycle" - the Oprah for Barack Obama rally in Des Moines, Iowa. Winfrey said, "For the very first time in my life, I feel compelled to stand up and to speak out for the man who I believe has a new vision for America," and told the audience of 15,000 said, "I am here to tell you, Iowa, he is the one. He is the one!"

Sometimes I wonder if you comprehend what you read. I did not stick up for Farrakhan.

i have leaned toward conservative values most of my adult life, although i was disappointed obama won the election; i now feel a new sense of hope if hillary becomes secretary of state. i will feel much more secure about our future if the clintons can keep a close eye on obama. bill will just be a phone call away if things start going wrong in the white house, so with that, i hope hillary will take the job. after all, that way the clintons can help run the country.

Can someone please explain to me what makes conservatives "nuts" or "racists" or "bigots". Is it because we believe that every life is important, no matter the size. Maybe its because we have convictions and we stick to them. Could it be that we didn't vote for Obama because we didn't agree with policies and not because hes black. Or is it that we feel that marriage is a sacred union and between a man and a woman. I have been comanded to love my neighbor and I do my very best at showing that love, does this make me a lunatic? Tell me what makes me a "nut".

I know that Bush has not been a perfect president and that he's made a lot of mistakes. These last eight years have been tough, because of the circumstances since 9/11. Even though I don't agree with Bush on every issue I respect the fact that he might know more than I. We don't know the intimate details of what goes on in the White House and its very arogant to think that one knows more about the country than the president simply from watching CNN or the evening news.

I for one voted my morals on Nov 4th and I'm proud of that fact. I didn't vote for some preconceived notion of change or hope. I didn't vote for the candidate that would "change history". I didn't vote for what was "popular". I voted for the candidate whom I felt would retain my freedom, my safety and my moral codes in government. I pray that President-elect Obama will do whats right for the country and unlike these "crazy" (how do you like being referred to as crazy) Dems I will not disrespect my comander in cheif.

First:Bush is complicit in the great deception in America's history. Bush and his band of Neocon thugs have done everything in their power to destroy our constitution aka John Ashcroft then Alberto Gonzales. In 1994 Newt and his GOP thugs took over congress and controlled it till 2007. Bush, Cheney and the rest of your Neocons and religious right zealots need to be put in prison for destroying America through their fascist techniques aided by Fox News and conservative radio. If God created everything and is in everything then obviously Obama's election to presidency is the result of God's will working through the electorate.

Conservatism used to be defined by Goldwater, George Will, Peggy Noone, Peter Brooks, Ron Paul conservatives. Today we have this "new conservatism" represented by odious people like Sean Hannity, Laura Inghram, Fox News, Rush Limbaugh, all of right wing talk radio and your religious right zealots who are the fear and smear merchants of the GOP. They now represent the base of the GOP. Their slanderous and seditious use of Hitler sytle propaganda is quite striking. These people actually wrap themselves in our flag and use our cherished american symbols to promote a fascist agenda where every despicable tactic is used to discredit anyone who disagrees with them. It is no wonder the GOP lost in such a decisive manner and if the GOP is to survive they need to excise this cancer from their party. The GOP has surrendered its banner to these hideous hatemongers and if not corrected will NEVER become the Grand Old Party again.

Obviously it was God's will that Obama became our President as evidenced by the overwhelming majority Obama won by. God's will working through the electorate...
As for the harm done to our great country just look at Bush, John Ashcroft, Alberto Gongales and the rest of your Neocn thugs who have tried to destroy our constitution and right of privacy. This criminal administration has destroyed the very fabric of america.
Your message is just unreal> You fear america being destroyed by Omama when Bush has already done that. Bush and his cronies need to be convicted of Treason and put in prison where they belong.
Give me Obama any day...
